Wimbledon 2012: Singles 3rd round reached!

Sara is in the 3rd round at Wimbledon! In the first round, she had very little problems with American youngster Coco Vandeweghe: 6-1, 6-3. The match was played on tuesday, except for the last point. It had been drizzling through most of the last game, but at matchpoint for Sara (of all possible moments…) the rain got heavier, and play was suspended until the next day. When the players got back on court on wednesday, Vandeweghe hit a double fault – it was over in 7 seconds. There’s a video of this bizarre moment on youtube.

In the second round, Sara beat British player Anne Keothavong even more easily: 6-1, 6-1. Sara played really well, especially in the first set. In Sara’s own words:

“I played a good match, even though she may have made a few too many errors. I have to improve my second serve, which is even more important on this surface than on other surfaces, but I’m happy with the way I moved on court.”

In the third round, Sara will play against Yaroslava Shvedova.

In doubles Sara and Roberta didn’t have any problems in their first round match. They beat Birnerova/Cetkovska 6-2, 6-1. They will play McHale/Paszek in the second round.

Before getting to Wimbledon, the “Cichis” won their 7th title of the year in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, by beating Kirilenko/Petrova in a close final.
