That is it for the 2014/15 hardcourt season: our Sara Errani has been definitively stopped by an unlucky flu that affected her throughtout her entire stay in the Big Apple. After being defeated in singles by Samantha Stosur, Sara says farewell to Flushing Meadows with a huge doubles semifinal reached along with her partner Flavia Pennetta.

This was a hell of a tough day for Sara, who did her best to keep her focus high starting from early morning despite flu symptomps and multiple rain showers, waiting for the Brindisi native to finish her singles quartefinals match against Petra Kvitova.

The Italian couple stroke as hard as possible in order to take the n.1 seeds – Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis – down but still didn’t manage to succeed: after a 3-5 disadvantage – despite their apparent bad shape compared to their opponents’ –  the girls went all-in and forced a break, even thought losing it right after, along with the first set.

In the beginning of the second, it was even more clear how Flavia was exhausted from her previous singles match on the Arthur Ashe Stadium, as she started to lose even more energy and give awat Mirza and Hingis 2 unforced errors to go one lethal break ahead. Final score: 4-6, 1-6.

Our Sarita will fly back home to get completely over her flu and rest a couple of days before heading to  east for the tournament trio Guangzhou, Wuhan and Pechino.
