Australian Open 2012: Two quarterfinals!

Sara’s amazing Australian Open continued today, as she reached the quarterfinal in both singles and doubles!

She started her day with the singles first round vs Jie Zheng, and rushed off to a great start: 4-0 up. She struggled a bit in closing out the set, and got broken twice, but Zheng didn’t manage to hold serve once in the first set, so Sara took it 6-2. In the second set, Zheng started by playing better; she held serve and had breakpoints on Sara’s serve. However, she didn’t take those breakpoints, and Sara just continued to play well. As it turned out, that one service game was the only game Zheng would win in the second set; 62, 6-1, Game, Set and Match Errani. In the quarterfinal, Sara will play against #2 seed Petra Kvitova. This will be very tough, but Sara has been playing well all week, and if she keeps that up, it could be an interesting match.

In doubles, Sara and Roberta beat Hantuchova/Radwanska in the third round. The first set was close, but Sara and Roberta placed the decisive break at 4-4, and won the set 6-4. The second set was a little easier: 6-2. In the quarterfinals, they will play against Kudryavtseva and Makarova.
