VAMOS! Let’s celebrate Sara Errani’s first 2016 victory. Not just a regular one but our first Top15 notch of the season!
Following the tough R1 loss in Brisbane’s Premier tournament, tonight Sarita succeeded in prevailing over world’s n.12 – and n.7 seed here – Carla Suarez Navarro, securing a spot into last-16 round at the Apia International in Sydney.
Even playing under critical conditions – as the thermometer displayed burning hot 43.3 °C – Errani managed to start well and finish even better, avoiding a dangerous protraction that would have strongly cut the amount of weekly energies available. On the contrary, Sara limited the damage to protect her 1st Slam condition.
All said and done, it has been a stunning performance on every level – despite the favourable previous match record (7-3) – considering the fact that Suarez Navarro was fresh out of Queensland’s Premier semifinals as well as in her tip-top shape: after an early impasse, our warrior has been flawless throughout the whole match, forced the Spaniard to drop her serve for the 5-3 lead and hold hers to love for the set. Again, the Italian ripped through her first season win holding a decisive game to love. It was only at the end of the very last rally that World’s n.12 fell to Sarita and waved the white flag. Final score: 6-3, 6-3.
Our champion will now take the rest of day out to refrigerate and rest well in order to be 100% ready for tomorrow’s match against the Serbian Jelena Jankovic scheduled at 12noon (local time) on Court1.
