Barcelona 2012: Singles semifinal, Doubles final!

It was another good day for Sara in Barcelona today. The day started with her singles quarterfinal, against 2nd seed (and world #15) Julia Goerges. Sara started the match well, getting two early breaks and a 4-1 lead. Goerges broke back once at that point, but all through the first set, she was making too many errors to really trouble Sara, who took the set 6-2. In the second set, Goerges played better, and the sent went on serve until 3-3. In that game, Sara made the first break of the set. In the next game, Goerges had breakpoints on Sara’s serve, but she didn’t take them, while Sara took the first matchpoint she got, at 5-3 on Goerges’ serve.

Sara played really well today. Once again, she was solid from the baseline, and retrieved a lot of shots, even some that seemed impossible to get to. That way, she forced Goerges into making errors. She was also using her variety well again, and her serve was solid.

In doubles, Sara and Roberta made their 5th final of the year, by beating Cetkovska/Zahlavova Strycova in the semifinal: 6-2, 6-0. It was a really comfortable win for them, in the second set they even lost only two points on their own serve. The final will be an all-Italian affair, as they will meet their Fed Cup teammates Flavia Pennetta and Francesca Schiavone.
