Fed Cup 2011: Russia leads after Day 1

After day 1 of the Fed Cup meeting between Italy and Russia, Russia leads 2-0. Sara opened the tie against Vera Zvonareva, and lost the match 0-6 2-6. In the beginning of the match, Sara looked nervous, and perhaps also a bit overwhelmed by the occasion. She made a lot of unforced errors, while Zvonareva played really well all match. In the second set, Sara was able to play her game a bit more, but in the end, Zvonareva still won comfortably. This is what Sara said after the match:

In the second match of the day, Svetlana Kuznetsova beat Roberta Vinci in three sets: 6-2 6-7 6-1. Tomorrow, Zvonerava will take on Vinci at 2pm local time. If that is not the deciding point for Russia, the next match will be Sara against Kuznetsova. However, if Zvonareva wins her match, both teams are likely to change their lineup for the remaining two matches.
