Roland Garros 2015: 2nd Round win

French Open tennis tournament at Roland Garros

New round, new challenge for Sarita here at the Roland Garros 2015. She needed to win over Carina Witthoeft to get through to 3rd round: she is a young (’95 class) and dangerous German who recently got in WTA spotlight thanks to her power shots and her strong atlethicism. We believe she is going to be a good prospect within the next few years, as for now, both Sara’s experience and consistency prevailed.

This match history has been similar to the previous one, in which Sara firstly fought and displayed some quality tennis and then temporarly lost concentration to let her opponent taking the second set. Once again she raised her game to the maximum at the beginning of the final set leaving Witthoeft no choice but surrending. Final score: 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

Sara’s comments during post-match press conference have been:

“I think it has been a fun match to watch. I like her game. I tried to push at 4-1 and then slow the pace down a little but she totally overpowered me. I am glad it ended well”.

Drop shots have been definitively a reliable weapon today. It is never an easy shot to play because it depends a lot on your touch. I wasn’t feeling it lately so I am happy I pulled out a few winners”.

In next round Sara will have to chance to settle a score with the one who threw her out of last year’s draw: Andrea Petkovic. One fearsome challenger to treat carefully, especially when confident. Truth to be told, it appears that it might not be the case since the German herself had some difficulties today against Dominguez Lino and closed her match with only a single break difference.

As she is an old acquaintance, Sara is fully aware of what she is capable of:

“Game conditions are strongly influenced by the weather and of course are essential for every player. I prefer playing on sunny days. Last year was a little rainy while I was playing Andrea. In those conditions I struggle to move the ball since they get heavier. She is a tough opponent, I would need to try moving her around and hit deep shots.
