Two years later last singles title gain, Sarita achieves another individual success on clay in Rio de Janeiro!
Sara came out with a stunning win in straight sets (7-6(2), 6-1) from the fight against Slovakian Anna Schmiedlova to reach her 8th career singles title:
“I am so proud of this victory. I knew I had to be as much aggressive as possible and push on every shot. I am glad I pulled this off!”
A cautious tactic would probably not have been enough to win this match against such a powerful player, as Sara herself commented during press conference. She had been forced to adapt her abilities to her opponents’ game throughtout the whole tournament in order to match up her weapons up due to the fact that she hadn’t have the chance to carry out a proper pre-season training.
It was a slow start match: Sara manages to keep her service on the sixth game of play so putting a stop to the lasting break streak and taking a 4-2 lead. Schmiedlova feels the threat coming her way and raise her game so well as to gain 3 consecutive games and produce a set-point. Sara turns her attack down and bites the bullet to reach the tie-break: it is clear that tennis gods are on Sara’s side today since a lucky net fuels her up, giving her the strength to close the set leaving just 2 points behind.
The Slovakian now seems totally worn out and probably went all-in during the first set while Sara’s fire is still alive and burning. Finally, Schmiedlova gives up 6 consecutive points that lead to a fatal service break for her making Sarita the queen of Rio Open 2015.
