Rio de Janeiro 2015: Final!

A year after Sara is back in a WTA final at Rio Open!

Sara has just reached Rio Open’s final – the clay International tournament hosted in Rio de Janerio, Brasil.

After her victories over Pereira (6-3, 6-3), Dominguez Lino (6-0, 7-5) and Haddad Maia (6-1, 6-2), the n.16 WTA ranked and n.1 draw seeded defeated the swedish Johanna Larsson – n.69 in the world ranking and n.5 in the seeding – in semifinals with the final score of 7-5, 6-3. Sara’s second set’s performance needs emphasising, since starting down 0-3 she still managed to nail a 6-games streak. That’s the sixth win on six matches against the 26-years-old born in Helsingborg and they all came in straight sets.

The last hurdle in Rio between Sara and her potential first singles title since 2013 will be the Slovakian Anna Schmiedlova (n.75 in the ranking), 6° seed of the Brasilian draw, who successfully came out of the other semifinal against Irina-Camelia Begu (6-3, 4-6, 6-2). The final will be held on Sunday. There are no records between the two.

This is the 17th career singles final and the very first after the Open GDF Suez of Paris back in February 2014 for Cichi.
