Sara made the quarterfinal in Monterrey, with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Alizé Cornet. Once again, Sara played well, though there were moments in the match where she let Cornet back into the match after a lead. However, she was focused at all the right moments, and won the match easily in the end. Here is what Sara had to say after the match:
“I’ve been playing well the whole week so far and today I felt good too. We’re at a higher altitude here and the ball flies sometimes. You just have to be patient with it and adapt to the conditions. It’s also dangerous because it means your opponents can hit with more power sometimes. It can be tough to handle.
“I am not thinking of myself as the favorite now. I’m just taking it match to match. Right now I’m only thinking of the quarterfinals, playing Yaroslava Shvedova or Mandy Minella.”
In doubles, Sara and Roberta won their first match easily. They will play their quarterfinal later today.
