Unfortunately, Sara hasn’t been able to capture the singles title at Roland Garros. She played a good match, but Maria Sharapova was just too strong. In the beginning of the match, Sara was understandably nervous, and allowed Sharapova to take a quick 4-0 lead. After that, Sara played much better and was able to challenge Sharapova in most games. However, the Russian played too strong and powerful for Sara, and won the match 6-3, 6-2.
Despite yesterdays loss, Roland Garros has been a great tournament for Sara. Of course it’s a shame she couldn’t finish with the title, but what she should take from these 2 weeks is how well she played, and the great wins, instead of the final loss. As Sara said after the match:
“I reached the final in singles. It wouldn’t be right now to cry out of sadness, I’ve had so much happiness in the last days…”
You can read and watch Sara’s pressconference after the final on the Roland Garros website, and watch another video interview on Federtennis. Of course there are also a bunch of picures from yesterday in the photogallery, while you can watch highlights of the match here.
