Fed Cup 2011: No 3rd final in a row for Italy

Italy didn’t reach their 3rd final in Fed Cup in a row; they lost their semifinal 0-5 to Russia. After the first day, Russia already led 2-0, so after Kuznetsova beat Vinci on day 2, the tie was already over. In the so-called “dead” 4th rubber, Sara played against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, and she lost in two tie-breaks, 6-7, 6-7. Sara played a lot better than she did against Zvonareva on saturday, and as both players had problems to hold their serve, it turned into a match with a lot of breaks, which was a lot of fun to watch. In the first set, Pavlyuchenkova went a break up three times, but every time Sara broke straight back, In the second set, there were no less than 8 breaks in a row, but just like the first set, it went to a tiebreak in the end, and Pavlyuchenkova played just a bit better at these crucial moments.

In the 5th match, the doubles matches, Pavlyuchenkova and Makarova beat Camerin and Brianti in two sets.

Sara withdrew from the tournament in Fes this week, so her next tournament will be next week, in Barcelona.
