Indian Wells 2011: Into the 3rd round

Sara beat Jarmila Groth to reach the third round in Indian Wells. It was a hardfought match, typical for Sara, with a lot of breaks back and forth. Sara started really good, taking a 4-0 lead, but Groth came back and levelled it at 4-4. Sara didn’t let the loss of the big lead get to her, and took the set 7-5. In the second set, Sara was the first to break, but again she lost the break, and then got broken again at 4-5; Groth won the second set 6-4. In the third set, Sara proved the strongest mentally and physically; she broke Groth 3 times (and got broken once more herself) and won it 6-2.

This is a really good win for Sara, Groth is ranked 10 places above her and one of the players who are expected to climb the rankings this year. Also, it was a close match, with a lot of servicebreaks, and after the loss last week it’s great that Sara wins a match like this.

In the next round, she will face world #2 Kim Clijsters.
