Dubai 2013: Final!

Sara is into her 2nd singles final of the year!

After a 6-4, 6-4 win over Sorana Cirstea in the 2nd round, and a 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 win over Nadia Petrova in the quarterfinal, she played her best friend and doubles partner Roberta Vinci in the semifinal. Of course it was a difficult match for both of them. Sara commented on this before the match:

“Normally she’s with me on my side of the net and not on the other one, so to see her on the other side is tough because one of us will lose. She’s an amazing person outside the court. Outside the court she will always try to help you when she can. She’s like a sister to me. We stay together maybe 300 days a year. Of course we have had a lot of good moments together. I will have to think about it as just another tennis match, and not that it’s against her. I just have to go on the court and do my best. The good thing is one of us will be in the finals here.”

During the match, it was visible how well they know each other and each other’s game, but it was Sara who prevailed in the end: 6-3, 6-3. After the match she said that it was indeed difficult to play a “normal match” against Roberta, but they tried to do that anyway.

In the final Sara will play against Petra Kvitova. They played 3 times before, all last year, and Kvitova won all three meetings in two sets.
