Our warrior takes it all! Thanks to a stunning performance in the Dubai Duty Free Championships’ Finals Sara Errani earns her 1st WTA Premier title – her 9th career success – the Top20 and the 10th spot into the Road to Singapore Race!
What a night in Dubai, where a new Queen has been just crowned and celebrated by the whole Emirate. Its first ever Italian one. Just like the legendary phoenix that flies to Arabia to reborn from her own ashes and regenerates to a brand new life, Sarita took this second chance given to gain the most important trophy of her career after the previous fall to Petra Kvitova in 2013.
It has been a draining week full of tension, menaces – above all the disadvantage 1-5 in R1 against Saisai Zheng – and risks – deciding to leave for Dubai and give it one more try, even thought coming from a major disappointment in Federation Cup’s week-end. It does not matter anymore. All that is gone and it has been completely replaced thanks to 1 hour of play, only 2 games given and the most relevant win of Sara’s whole career… on hardcourt. The very same surface – despite of some sudden lack of phosphorus – that have already seen our Sara Errani reaching US Open’s SF (2013), Australian Open’s QF (2012), another final in Dubai (2013) and GDF Paris Open’s final twice (2013-14).
Our warrior got out the locker rooms wearing the eyes of the Tiger, silent and focused on her prey, who could not help but give her the look back and ended up in being hypnotized by it. Barbora Strycova – currently n.47 in world’s rankings – had to accept the fact that it was not meant to be her night. On the other side of the net, the one of the first even Italian player to win here in the UAE, a mind filled with consciousness: the one owned by those who have been at the bottom and grasped their way back to the top. The same kind of consciousness owned by those who know every safe harbour in their lives. The same kind of consciousness of those who are not afraid of the lack of support, approval or respect, as they deeply acknoledge their own limits and talents. Final score: 6-0, 6-2.
As for now, we still do not have time to rest since we are rushing to catch our next flight. This week we will be in Doha for the Qatar Total Open 2016, where our queen will start by facing Svetlana Pironkova – Court1, tomorrow 5pm local time ca. The WTA’s n.93 player from Bulgaria won their last clash in Sydney (2014).
Also, Sara will compete again in Doubles with her Spanish Carla Suarez Navarro. Once again the draw could have been better thought, as the girls will have to play one the most dangerous teams of the Tour in R1 – Lucie Hradecka and Andrea Hlavackova (5).
As we are eager to celebrate our Sarita’s most important career win, here’s something to relive yesterday’s trill: HIGHLIGHTS (Errani v. Strycova)
