This is Sara Errani’s 5th WTA Premier and 19th career Finals earned. 3 years later the battle against Petra Kvitova our champion is back on the Dubai Duty Free Championships main stage!
There is no place on Earth too far for our warrior’s passion and heart to reach: despite the difficulties, the doubts and the aches of a gli acciacchi of such a bad time, tennis always remains the anchor and the cure of a professional player – “Live by the tennis, die by the tennis”.
The other semifinalist faced by Sarita today was none other than a one of the most striving contenders for the title. In fact, Elina Svitolina – currently n.21 in world rankings, holder of 3 WTA titles, including Marrakech Open (2015) – is a major threat in the Tour as she has already taken down powerheads such as Garbine Muguruza – last-16 Round (7-6(3), 6-3). The two start by complimenting each other with a streak of breaks, until our champion takes action and seals the first set. The Ukranian player, born and raised in Odessa, tries to set up a comeback by sprinting at 3-1 but Errani doesn’t get discouraged and levels back, preventing another tiring 3rd set and reaching the 5th WTA Premier final of her career. Final score: 6-4, 6-4.
Sara’s next opponent in the final showdown will be the Czech Barbora Strycova, also winner of her semifinal match against the brand new French heroine Caroline Garcia (6-2, 3-6, 6-3). Match records unequivocally favours Sarita (5-1). Nevertheless, the current n.47 player in world rankings is in strong shape and has taken down a power head like Garbine Muguruza within the latest Australian Open. We already know it is going to be an easy one.
That’s enough for now, we are already beyond our point of satisfaction even though our Sara Errani did not catch up the second final of the day in Doubles with Carla Suarez Navarro. The Italian-Spanish duo showed us once again how amazing its consistency and feeling on court is, unfortunately it wasn’t enough to beat Chia-Jung Chuang and Darija Jurak today: the two made their best effort to bother Sarita’s and Carlita’s game throughout the first set and finally succeeded in the second, when they managed to come back from a 5-2 disadvantage to finish strong in the super tie-break and deny our girls their first doubles final together. Final score: 7-5, (5)6-7, 7-10.
Of course we would love to share today’s highlights to let everybody – including those who could not make it to see it live – enjoy our Sarita’s win! HIGHLIGHTS (Errani v. Svitolina):
