Last night, Sara and Roberta won their 2nd Grand Slam title of the year! They beat Hlavackova/Hradecka 6-4, 6-2. The first set was tough, and Sara was struggling to hold serve, but in the second set it was easier for the girls. At 5-2 they were serving for the match, and closed it without problems.
“We played aggressive today and it was good for us,” said Sara after the match. “It was a tough match, but it was important for us to play aggressively.” About their new rankings – #1 and 2 of the world! – Sara said: “It’s a dream come true. We’ve played amazing all year – making the final in Australia and winning in Paris, and winning so many matches on clay. We’ve done well on every surface this year. Of course this is an amazing achievement for us – we hope to continue.” Roberta added: “The good thing about this one is we can celebrate together. It’s always better to finish winning together. It’s a good thing.”
After the match, Sara and Roberta did a special celebration, with a kind of dance routine that Francesco Cina’s kids came up with. During the trophy presentation ceremony they tried to explain it, which you can see here.
On the WTA site and the US Open site you can find match reports about the final, while ubitennis posted their usual collection of articles from the Italian press. Of course there are also a lot of pictures from the final in the photogallery!
