Indian Wells 2011: Close loss to world #2

Sara wasn’t able to pull off the upset last night, but she played a very close match against world #2 Kim Clijsters: 3-6, 6-2, 4-6. It has to be said that Clijsters looked rusty and apparently has some kind of shoulder injury, but that does not mean Sara didn’t play well. She did. She did as much as she could do, and went into this match with the right strategy. As always Sara got a lot of balls back, and whenever possible, came into the field to try and finish the point at the net, which worked a lot of the times. The shot that worked best for Sara last night was her dropshot. She played it at the right moments, and won the point every time (Clijsters only once even got her racket to it).

So, even though she didn’t win the end, Sara has a lot to be proud of in this match. Hopefully she carries this forum to Miami and then into the clayseason.

“Credo di aver giocato sempre ad un buon livello, mentre lei ha avuto molti su e giù. E’ dipeso molto più da lei che non da me, ed alla fine comunque sui punti importanti lei ha sempre giocato bene. In ogni caso sono soddisfatta del torneo che ho fatto, ho lottato, credo di aver giocato bene, anche se credo di essere arrivata più vicina alla vittoria lo scorso anno contro la Jankovic. Ma contro queste giocatrici è sempre molto difficile perchè probabilmente sono di un livello superiore al mio”.
