San Diego 2011: Close loss

Sara had a really close loss to Shuai Peng yesterday; 6-4 2-6 6-7. In the first set, both players were winning a lot of points on their own serve, but Sara managed to make one break and thus won the set. In the second set, Peng was playing better, and broke Sara’s serve three times while only getting broken once. The third set was really close, both players got in an early break but after that they both won their service games, most of them with ease. At 5-5, Sara broke Peng’s serve, but wasn’t able to serve out the match, so they went into a tiebreak. In the tiebreak Sara went up again, at 6-4 she had two matchpoints, but again she wasn’t able to close it out, and in the end Peng took the tiebreak 9-7.

In doubles, Sara was able to redeem herself and she and Roberta Vinci beat Rodionova/Savchuk 7-5 6-4. In the semifinals, they will play against world number ones Peschke/Srebotnik.
