Our Sara Errani had to fight through the victory today, but still managed to use to her resilience and make it to Ericsson Open’s quarterfinals in Bastad.

Viktorija Golubic, Sarita’s second main draw opponent, showed up in Sweden as the 2016 champion of home WTA International of Gstaad, Switzerland. On the strength of her new-found rhythm and confidence following the biggest victory in her career, the Swiss went all-in with her venomous one-handed backhand and her game variety. Nevertheless, our warrior didn’t fall for it and was prepared to face the challenge.

The girls welcomed each other on court – no previous match recorded – exchanging service breaks until the the decisive showdown for the first set. Golubic fought hard to get the winner but in the end it was our Sara Errani who eventually managed to close it on the 5th set point thanks to a stunning dropshot.

The Swiss tried to take cover and called for a medical time-out to get treatment but Sarita wasn’t willing to waste her advantage and proceeded to take over. Final score: 7-6(6), 6-1.

Her next contender for the title of the Ericsson Open of Bastad will be Katerina Siniakova – n.92 in world rankings – who defeated the n.5 seed Anna Carolina Schmiedlova in 3 sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-4). Sara Errani has alreay met and won against the young Czech on Bad Gastein’s clay back in 2014, 6-3, 6-2. The match will be played on Friday, as the last one held on Centre Court starting from 11am.
