Mixed day for Sara, as she lost in singles, but won in doubles.
The day started with the semifinal in singles, against world #6 Victoria Azarenka. Sara played well, especially in the first set, but Azarenka played even better, and won 6-2, 6-1. Azarenka is one of the best returners on the WTA, so Sara struggled in every service game, but she kept fighting, and while she was broken a couple of times, she has also broken Azarenka once. Sara hit 10 winners, and only 6 unforced errors in the match, compared to 27 winners and 20 unforced errors from Azarenka.
In the Doubles semifinal, Sara and Roberta didn’t start very well, especially on serve. They lost the first set 2-6 and didn’t hold serve until the 8th game of the second set. From there on, they came back into the match, and won the second set in a tiebreak. They went on to win the match tiebreak as well (10-5), so they are through to the final! This will be played tomorrow, at 12PM local time, against local favourites Llagostera Vives and Parra Santonja. The final here in Marbella is already Sara and Roberta’s 3rd final of the year, here’s hoping they can make it their 3rd title too!
