Wimbledon 2012: 3rd round loss

Unfortunately Sara has lost in the 3rd round at Wimbledon: 0-6, 4-6 against Yaroslava Shvedova. The first set was a historic set, but not in a good way for Sara: it was a so-called “golden set“, in which the winner didn’t lose a single point. All 24 points of the set went to Shvedova; and yet Sara made only 1 unforced error. Despite what happened in the first set, Sara fought really hard in the second. She got an early break, and even when she got broken back, she kept fighting for every game and every point. At 4-5, Shvedova broke Sara again, and with that she won the match. Sara’s pressconference (in Italian) after the match has been posted on ubitennis.

A few hours after the singles loss, Sara was back on the court, for her first mixed doubles match with Fabio Fognini. They had a bye in the first round, and played Max Mirnyi and Victoria Azarenka from Belarus in the second round. They played well, but the extra power that Mirnyi and Azarenka have compared to them was just too much to handle, and the Belarussian pair won 6-3, 6-2.
