Great debut and sweet reunion with Carla Suarez Navarro for our Sara Errani. On the other hand, a not so lucky first round match in singles against Coco Vandeweghe, highly affected by several stops due to rain.
Not much to do in R1 of the main draw here at the Western&Southern Open in Cincinnati: way too little time to adapt to a looking-like surface but almost twice as fast compared Rio de Janeiro’s Olympics courts, as well as several adverse situations at the wrong time. Our went immediately off to a good start in he first set, as she manage to prevail by ending a counter-break streak, forcing her way out with her serve. From that point on, the match unfortunately headed upside down, as the American firstly levelled the score and than came back from a 1-4 disadvantage in the third set thanks to a few nets and lines. Final score: 6-4, 3-6, 4-6.
Luckily enough, the day wasn’t finished until Sarita got a least a strong win in Doubles against Raluca Olaru and Renata Voracova. Due to a different Olympics schedule that forced a split right after Miami’s WTA Premier, our Sara Errani and Carla Suarez Navarro parted ways, but they are eventually back together and ready to claim their former Top10 position in the race for the WTA Championships. Las chicas took the lead with a solid 3-0 advantage and never left it until the end of the match. Final score: 6-3, 6-2.
Finally Errani and Suarez Navarro have had a free day to spend in order to rest before getting to know their next opponent: the n.8 seed Xu/Zheng, who defeated Arruabuarena/Savchuk (6-4, 6-2). The match will take place today not before 3pm local time on Court10.
